Position Purpose
Assist the Train Driver with the efficient and safe operation of various kinds of locomotives and trains (airbrake vacuums, speedy heavy haul and the passengers) in order to make sure that cargo or freight of the customer gets to its destination in good shape and on time to allow the organization to meet requirements of the customers.
Qualifications and Experience
Grade 12 with pure Mathematics and/or Physical Science. Other requirements Be prepared to undergo periodic medical surveillance and behavioral risk assessments throughout the selection process as well as every twelve months thereafter. Physical hearing and vision fitness (to be confirmed through tests for medical and safety risk evaluations) The operator must not permit employees under 21 years old to perform train driving or train control duties. (SANS 3000, par 6.2.6.8). The following is the minimum requirement for a Trainee is that the candidate must be at least 1.6m tall. Ability to use their brain (to be measured using the Vienna Testing System (VTS) standard) Ability to lift large objects. Functional Training Be prepared to successfully complete Train Assistant tasks (theoretical as well as practical) in order to be able to work independently as Train Assistant. Be ready, willing and competent to receive an official Train Assistant qualification (theoretical in addition to practical) with success and then be accredited to work on your own as a Train Assistant.
