Job Description

Dis-Chem’s Montana location has an opening for an Dispensary Support to join the team. The principal goal is to recruit students with the capability of completing and passing the learner basic pharmacist assistant training. The course will enable students with the fundamental concepts of all the main areas of the dispensing and pharmaceutical environment and promotes high-quality on-the-job learning. The staff will be placed in a fixed term job as Dispensary Support until they have been registered with the SAPC as basic assistants to learners. Once they have been certified as an assistant pharmacist in the basic level is permanent employment available.

Requirements

Grade 12 Matric or Senior Certificate that includes Pure Mathematics 50%, Physical Science, and at the minimum 50% on average percent

Job Specification

Dispensary Support staff must have passed a proficiency test that allows the applicant to register with the Southern African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a basic assistant learner.

A pharmacist’s assistant who is registered under the category pharmacist’s assistant learner basic, who can perform the following tasks or act under the direct direction of the pharmacist at the pharmacy:

  • The selling of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Assist in the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of a non-sterile medication or scheduled substance in accordance with an established formulation and the Standard Operating Procedures endorsed by the pharmacist responsible for the medication.
  • Assist in the packaging and merchandising and the cleaning of shelves in the dispensary and OTC shelves as per the approval of the pharmacist responsible for that.
  • Other duties given for them by their Dispensary Manager.
  • Learn to read scripts correctly and behave professionally and in a responsible manner, and in line with the legal requirements, in line of the South African Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Be sure to ensure accurate labelling / packing of the medication. Be aware of the most common dosages as well as the most important interactions between drugs.
  • Make sure that all medicines are verified for the accuracy of the prescription by a pharmacist. They are then verified by an pharmacist.
  • Assist in the management of the stock (manage cleanliness and the organization of shelves as well as deadlines) from schedule 1 through Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Follow-up with patients about reports on the tracking of their scripts as directed by the dispensary manager, and appointment follow-ups.
  • Assist with scripts for call centres and calls to patient service.
  • Give information to people so that they can improve their health.
  • Assist in the scheme of authorization for ongoing, HIV as well AIDS and oncology medications.
  • Report on low – or low stock as well as mistakes in stock to the manager of the dispensary.
  • Get dispensary stock according with the SOP that is provided by the company.
