We’re in search of an skilled Process Engineer who is responsible for reviewing the efficiency of the process and making design-based enhancements to ensure greater production, lower waste, and better uniformity of standards for quality for particular products.

As Process Engineer you will be responsible to:

  • Examining the start-up procedure and shut-down procedures, as well as best operating methods along with training and operating manuals.
  • Recognize patterns that could signal possibilities to improve the efficiency of processes moving forward.
  • Create recommendations for areas that are worth further investigation.
  • Conduct a thorough root cause analysis using information from a variety of sources, including alarm data, floor managers, operators and technical reports. Verify that the documentation is current and accepted.
  • Create high-level processes for single plants, based on the priority list in the project list for the mill, or as requested by the technical managers. Make sure that the quality standards are met in all areas.
  • Create detailed designs for specific processes within some or all of the manufacturing facility. This can include mass and energy balances as well as tuning and sizing valves pumps, as well as other technical specifications to optimize processes.
  • Design review meetings with the lead designer by working along with the other engineers involved in peer review of the latest designs.
  • Develop an understanding of environmental standards, and create improvements keeping the current and future legislation with a view to the future.
  • Study of Lead Risk (Structured What If Technique – SWIFT and HAZOP, Hazard and Operability Study – HAZOP) for the plant.
  • Review the designs that have been developed by process engineers other than yours from a control efficiency point of perspective.
  • Find out the effects of modifications to the process on employees as well as processes and systems currently within the facility. Plan actions to deal with the impacts of the changes. In collaboration with the project manager to solicit assistance from other departments (for instance Sappi Learning if there is the need for training).
  • Supervise the commissioning of new equipment or processes.
  • Participate with project managers throughout the development of new processes to gather feedback on the success and risk.

Relevant Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science (or BTech with a focus on Chemical Engineering coupled with pulp and paper knowledge.
  • 3 to 5 years of process expertise in a manufacturing environment with a high volume of production.
