AHRI Vacancies Description:
The Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) is looking for an extremely motivated Laboratory Technician. This Laboratory Technician is expected to be working in a lively multidisciplinary team within AHRI which focuses upon TB as well as HIV research. The candidate will directly report to the Diagnostic Research Laboratory Supervisor and Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) Laboratory Supervisor who are situated at Somkhele campus of the AHRI Somkhele campus.
AHRI Vacancies Overview Duties
The Laboratory Technician works as a part of a lively multidisciplinary team within AHRI that focuses specifically on TB as well as HIV research. Candidates will be reporting directly to both the Laboratory Supervisor and Clinical Trial Unit (CTU) Laboratory Supervisor and will be located in the AHRI Somkhele facility. The applicant will be required to carry out different lab tasks and perform duties for various clinical research and trials that are conducted by AHRI. The responsibilities include the receiving and processing (including PBMC isolation) of various biological samples gathered from various trials or studies, and making samples ready for storage and transport, as well as long-term storage of specimens as well as the preparation of kits for specimen collection testing, as well as assist with general cleaning and maintenance of the laboratory equipment, instruments and equipment in compliance with the health and safety guidelines of the company policies and procedures, as well as the GCLP and ISO15189 standards. The post is located on Somkhele Campus. Somkhele Campus, but may be required to be based in Durban occasionally.

Minimum Qualifications
- A Tech degree (or BSc with Honours Degree with a focus on Medical Microbiology, Virology or any other related field that is relevant and pertinent.
- Inseminate with HPCSA
Minimum Experience
- A minimum of two years of experience in the diagnostic or research laboratory.
- Experience in a laboratory with high-throughput is extremely beneficial.
- Working using the Laboratory Information Management System will be beneficial.
- Experience in the processing and storing of diverse biological samples, as well as performing a variety of diagnostic tests.
- Experience in operating in an SANAS recognized Laboratory (ISO 15189 or equivalent) and/or Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) conforming.
AHRI Vacancies Advantageous
- SA Citizens or SA Resident with a valid work visa is a vital necessity.
- Ability to work under minimum supervision.
- A prior vaccination is recommended to prevent Hepatitis B.
