Main purpose of the position:
Deliver stories of the highest audiovisual quality that align with SABC News editorial objectives and fulfill public mandate obligations.
Key Accountabilities:
- Deliver visuals of highest editorial quality for broadcast and publishing.
- Discuss and brainstorm potential story angles with reporting journalists before coverage begins.
- Guide the reporting journalist or video editor towards choosing images with maximum visual impact that tell the story.
- Rearrange packages of news and current affairs as per SABC editorial prescripts, BCCSA requirements, and Press Codes.
- Assist in setting up and coordinating facilities for live broadcasts when required to do so.
- Make sure all visuals and overall output comply with prescribed editorial principles and SABC News quality standards.
- Deliver audiovisual content as required to digital news platforms.
- Take great care in protecting the equipment used for reporting, such as cameras and accessories, by keeping it secured at all times.
- Utilize all resources assigned appropriately and efficiently.
- Contact your team leader immediately if any equipment has been damaged or broken down.
- Communication with internal stakeholders to ensure optimal achievement of News objectives.
- Adhere to South Africa’s Constitution and all applicable broadcasting and other legislation, Icasa regulations, BCCSA/Press Codes of Conduct/Editorial Policies as well as news/current affairs style guides.
- Be consistent in following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Reduce risk of loss or damage of property and equipment.
Requirements:
- National Diploma (NQF6) in Video Technology, Media Studies, or a similar qualifications.
- Excellent news judgment and a great awareness of news.
- Fantastic photographic sensibility and a keen eye for the finer details.
- Fitness and strength to be able to lift and handle equipment. it.
- Ability to perform under pressure and working irregular schedules.
- The ability to use computers is vital.
