Job Summary
The aim of this tax-related program is to build an outstanding pipeline of tax specialists within the firm through accelerating the development of outstanding tax professionals through tax-focused rotations across the company. Trainees are primarily rotated among three tax-focused teams within the company such as Tax; Shared Service Tax and Institutional Operation Tax. They also gain experiences working in Group or Retail Finance. In the third year, there are chances to move through teams of business analysis, such as Product Development, Operations Analytics, Risk and Assurance.
Job Responsibilities
As a tax trainee at Allan Gray your primary focus will be to gain practical experience and develop the necessary skills and technical knowledge in the field of South African and international taxation. Some of the key tasks and responsibilities associated with your role as a tax trainee will include the following:
- Analysis and research
- Revenue tax returns The tax returns you prepare could be asked to prepare and review, or assist with the preparation and reviewing of tax returns filed by corporations for the various businesses, trusts, and collective investment schemes of the Allan Group. This could involve gathering the financial data required as well as calculating or recalculating taxable income, and determining whether the deductions, exclusions, and credit for tax are consistent to the current tax laws.
- Service teams assist the following: You can assist external or internal business stakeholders via the client service team on tax-related issues pertaining to Allan Gray and its product offering.
- Planning and tax advice Tax planning and advisory in tax team initiatives that deal with the planning of taxes and strategies for implementation that affect the various Allan Gray products such as collective investment schemes as in offshore and local legal entities.
- Risk assessment and tax monitoring you can participate in tax review reviews for monitoring.
- Learning and developing continuously In your role as Tax trainees, you’re expected to be up to date with the most current taxes, tax regulations and trends in the industry. You’ll be required to take part in training courses as well as seminars and other professional development events.
