Purpose of the role
The MANAGER is accountable for the overall process for the litigation part in the MVA claim. They are also responsible for budgeting and scrutinize legal documents. They should oversee a team of employees under them, and provide advice on the most effective strategy for trial including legal questioning, managing litigation. He/she should also have substantial influence in firing and termination of employees. In addition, he/she should examine the entire area’s litigation department and make changes to enable it to function more efficiently. At times, He/She may be required to attend court settlements. He or she may also aid RAF to stop a lengthy litigation before it gets to a point of no return. In these instances the Senior Manager for Claims should be involved in decisions that may cause additional legal expenses. He/she could help the region determine the risk the decision could bring and assess the probability of the costs in the event that litigation is pursued at its maximum. They can also offer guidance, counsel and suggestions regarding other decisions that the region may make or methods by which the RAF could reduce or eliminate the likelihood of litigation.
Key Performance Areas
- Help the Senior Claims Manager with creating and implementing a the strategic direction for claims management.
- Make sure that work is completed following established policies and procedures.
- Control the standardization and mapping for departmental procedures.
- Take on responsibility and accountability in the administration of regional claims litigation within his/her region of jurisdiction.
- Provide recommendations for policies, procedures, and guidelines to reduce the negative effects of adverse judgements.
- Publicize and distribute positive judgments outcomes, and also document lessons learned for the long-term sustainability of positive strategies for litigation.
- Participate in high court/magistrate’s meetings to manage the flow of cases in the court.
Qualification
- Four (4) year degree of Law or an equivalent.
- The admission of an attorney to the High Court or Advocate.
- NQF 8 (Post Graduate Diploma/Honours Degree/Professional Degree) inexplicably.
- Relevant 6-8 years experience in claims environment of which two (2) years must have been on management/supervisory level/area of expertise.
